2022-04-10Intentionality
This week I’ve been thinking about intentionality. At the moment I have 3 habits that all reflect it in a way: meditation, Anki, and pomodoro.
mind illuminated and intentionality
Meditation makes this clear. Just today I was reading through “The Mind Illuminated,” and I realized that meditation is training the habit of using intentionality to direct your mind. I knew that focusing was a part of meditation, but “The Mind Illuminated” makes it clear that this is the end goal of meditation, learning to focus on anything without effort.
anki
Anki is a [Spaced Repetition Software]. I’ve heard the name for years, but [this post by whoever] inspired me to start using it.
How does Anki relate to intentionality? The post said it well, “Anki makes remembering something a choice.” Instead cramming stuff into my head and hoping I’ll remember it, Anki gives me a way to take notes, commit them to memory, and keep them there. It’s another way to take remembering from intention to reality.
pomodoro
I’ve also been working on using timers/the pomodoro technique to work on projects. I’ve found it helpful to get myself to work on anything every day.
However, I’m actually interested in a different aspect of the pomodoro technique: stopping. One of my recurring problems is staying up late working on projects.
